    Raccoons

    Raccoons

Raccoons are often referred to as masked bandits. While naming a pet raccoon “bandit” is kind of cliché, there is no better word to describe them. Raccoons are mainly known for their distinctive black mask.

Most of the time when raccoons are seen they are eating, playing, or stealing leftovers from dumpsters. The mask covers the majority of their face, making them fully equipped for all-night trash raids. In the wild, raccoons eat just about anything: grasshoppers, sandhill plums, bird eggs, and even deer corn. Raccoons area also known for their human-like hands. Though they do not have opposable thumbs, they can still get into just about any door, box, or compartment…including deer feeders. They are curious animals and have the proper equipment to cause mischief.

One time, while I was sleeping at the cabin, three baby raccoons came onto the front porch and started playing with some batteries I had left out. I sat and watched the little creatures play with their shiny toys in the moonlight. I wanted one for a pet, but they eventually saw me and darted off into the darkness. Raccoons look cuddly and cute, but if you tried to pet them they would bite your face off.
