Mule Deer Buck-
This picture was taken up in the Texas panhandle on my first mule deer hunt. I used a .270 since the deer are much larger than their cousin the whitetail. Mule deer have a kingliness to them in my opinion. When you spot one up close like pictured here, they just seem to stare into your soul. It’s like they know how beautiful and majestic they are. Whitetail sometimes do the same, but they are more likely to run off waving their white flag.
Mule deer need caprocks and canyons, places to hide and find shelter. Mule deer are often called “muleys” because of their iconic big mule ears. Mule deer are generally larger in size and are grayer than their cousin the white tail which are more brownish red.
Some of my favorite hunts have been in the Texas Panhandle stalking mule deer up and down the canyon walls.
