Wolf Spider –
Wolf spiders are perfectly named; they hunt like lone wolves. Most spiders make a beautiful web and wait for the food to come to them, but wolf spiders prowl around and stalk their prey. On occasion, if the spider is having bad luck, it will sit and wait for the right time to pounce.
Wolf spiders depend on their furry, brown-patterned camouflage. If they are seen by their prey they might not eat that day. A wolf spider strikes its prey and injects a poison that kills it instantly.
Despite this fierce behavior, wolf spiders are loyal mothers. Females carry their egg sack on their back, which in some cases can be almost as big as her. Once the eggs hatch she carries the babies until they are big enough to fend for themselves. Even scary, hairy looking spiders have a touch of gentleness.
Unlike real wolves, I’m glad they don’t run in spider packs.
