Hunting Sunrise –

It goes like this.  A dark blanket with little specks of white light covers the sky.  The eastern horizon glows purple, then red.  With a little cloud cover, God really goes wild with the pinks and blues.  As birds start to sing, the sun pops up from the horizon.  It happens so fast.  The gleaming warm fingers cover the prairie grass making everything turn gray, then orange.  It’s an explosion of color.

You can’t really squeeze a sunrise into a picture or canvas or video.  Nothing is big enough or fine enough. But there’s something else to it.  It’s about getting up hours before, walking in the dark with a bow or gun or camera, and settling into the cold, raw world.

And sitting there, you have great hope.  The hope for a turkey or a deer or some special memory that only you will see today.  The sunrise frames it all in beauty.  I feel kind of sorry for people that never see it.  I don’t know where else you could get stuff like that.
